5 Effective Exercises to Increase Breath-Holding Capacity

Effective exercises you can do regularly to increase your breath-holding capacity:

  1. Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise
  • Sit in a comfortable position
  • Place one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach
  • Slowly inhale through your nose, feel your stomach expand
  • Hold for 4 seconds
  • Slowly exhale through your mouth
  1. Interval Breath Holding
  • Take a normal breath
  • Hold for 10 seconds
  • Release slowly
  • Breathe normally for 30 seconds
  • Increase duration daily
  1. Box Breathing Technique
  • Inhale for 4 seconds
  • Hold for 4 seconds
  • Exhale for 4 seconds
  • Wait for 4 seconds
  • Repeat this cycle 5 times
  1. Pursed Lip Breathing
  • Inhale through your nose for 2 seconds
  • Purse your lips as if whistling
  • Exhale slowly for 4 seconds
